“In 2004 I was going through a divorce and decided that it was time for a career change too, so I gave a 30-day notice to the restaurant I had managed for 20 years. When I was looking for a new job, a relative that was working for Pihl Excavating recommended that I try it. I applied and got the job so at 46 years old, I started my new career at Pihl Excavating. The job was completely new to me since I had never set grade, operated heavy equipment, or anything related to excavating. The crews that I worked with taught me everything I needed to know. Even though I had no prior experience in this field of work, everyone was involved in my training. Nobody put me down for not knowing what they knew, and they all worked at bringing me up to their level of knowledge. The owner, Matt Pihl, engaged in my training from the start and has continued to give me great opportunities for growth. Here, at Pihl Excavating, if you want it and are willing to work and learn, then anything is possible. Now, I work as an estimator for the company and love it.

Health, Dental, & Vision Insurance

Pihl Excavating offers fully paid health, dental, and vision insurance to employees, their spouse/domestic partner, and dependents at no cost to the employee. Health, dental, and vision insurance eligibility begins the first day of the next month following the employee’s first day.

401(k) Retirement Plan

Pihl Excavating offers a 401(k) retirement plan to employees along with up to a 3% company match. 401(k) retirement plan eligibility begins the first day of the next month following the employee’s first day.

Vacation Time

Pihl Excavating offers paid vacation time to employees. Vacation time can be used after 90 days of employment.

Sick Time

Pihl Excavating offers paid sick time to employees. Sick time begins accruing on an employee’s first paycheck and can be used after 90 days of employment.

Life, Disability, & Accident Insurance

Pihl Excavating offers employees elective life, disability, and accident insurance plans that employees can choose to sign up for. These voluntary insurance benefits begin the first day of the next month following the employee’s first day.

Annual Company Events

As another way to get together and reward our employees for all their hard work, Pihl Excavating has annual company events. Those include our holiday party and summer picnic, among other things.
